A rat burned in the backyard for hours, but you didn’t notice
I can’t believe how much the stench grew
While you punched away at your laptop
Never looking up or even realizing
What was going on with me
Never understood, treated fairly
Constantly joked, bullied and beat up
Have you noticed, Will you notice
“Be quiet while I’m on the phone” and
“Can you take that upstairs” is all I hear
Barely concerned about grades and mischief
Nor popularity or lack there of
I intercepted the automated call
“Please be advised that you child was not
in school today….”
The progress reports go from the mailbox
To the trashcan
I wish I could talk

The rat was nice but tomorrow I think I will
