The Living Poet

by Antoinette Kopperfield — Read all 219 poems by Antoinette Kopperfield

When listening to the news about worldwide events, I find it necessary to escape-into the garden in my mind...

Friday, March 12, 2004

Today, I shall not fear
or walk with my heart
corrupted by the violence of life
when men do not love

I shall escape into my garden
where flowers have truth
and seeds are planted
by hope for mankind’s awakening

I desire to close off the heartbreaks
to not feel-the pain created by hatred
for it makes my writings dark
and others may need the light

I need to listen to the quiet
instilled within my mind of creation
for great wisdom gives me the ability
to paint with a palette of eternal fortitude

Simple, even with my own pain
I can feel the presence of love
abounding from my own father’s heart
A test of strength for the living poet…
