I was inspired by the verse to reflect on my personal walk?? Only I make it sound as if I have it all sewn up - - Which I don't!! :-(
That was the True Light...(that lighth every man) St John 1:9...
As I've walked along, upon this life's road I've not been one to focus on sorrow & woe
I've not let the shadows master my days
It's only that the light that follows our way.
Is something that has not been my main & constant stay.
I've either thought it to be not more than just 'something usefull' for me? (Not totally true ?)
Or I've shielded my eyes - to protect my vision from its brightness...
and have not really seen its beautiful glow! (Quite True!)
At other times I've let the various mere lanterns of this realm -
be the tools to lift the dimness of my dwelling, my trail.
So while the shadows stayed at bay,
I felt comfortable to there, find my rest.
With that to travel amid the trees & valleys beside my way
When during many a storm, that did trouble & drench my path.
There at the edge of the clouds, I would glimse of a thin band of light,
that would keep my spirit & dreams alive!
Often it happened though, that once back within my own encloser
That the curious flickering of the candles recaptured my gaze.
All the while that this heald sway...
This outer light - the distant gleam.
Was not taken as a worthy goal,
It was at times - not even seen
Only when opening my door afresh,
and viewed that which illuminates the whole realm !
I was astonished at its gentle - yet amazing power!
The strength it provided,
The wisdom & health it gave...
I was perplexed that I had resisted it so - even stayed afar?
With this before my eyes- even with it inside!
When I now glance about & see,
the 'burning sticks' that I once prized?
The warmth they often claimed - thier attempted shine.
Are so weak, that to depend on them again,
I would surely freeze, and walk again as if blind! !!!!????
((*** IT IS a wonder what "draw" the 'sticks' of this realm have***)) ??? (-: :-(
