Poetry
· deep breaths.

· apathy takes me.

· long drives.

· nothing more.

· ode to growth.

· living in a dream.

· indecisive.

· that afternoon.

· art.

· music melts.

never want to leave.

by Bethany Peterson — Read all 39 poems by Bethany Peterson

It's been a long time coming. I don't see any sense in looking back.

they lie flat underneath me.
as I pass over,
I’m reminded
of the hours of tireless labor
it’s taken
for the roads to exist
and for me to be able to say the same
about where I am
and how long I’ve been waiting
to get here.
now that I’m here,
I never want to leave.

Lovely thought.

I really like the nuance of this. While I often have sat on a hilltop, particularly in autumn and thought I could discern ancient paths taken by animals first, and then by humans. It was those very paths that were widened for wagons and then, paved for the convenience of automobiles. From what I gather, you are fine with that. And do not wish to go back to an earlier time like so many others lost in nostalgia rather than facing the future.

You made it to where you wanted, and needed to be, so why not just stay there. I like that kind of thought . . .
