On Psalm 139

This is probably the first poem I ever wrote, after a miscarriage in 1988. It is the only poem I know by heart! I was admitted to a hospital ward where girls were in for both terminations and "post-loss" recovery... very weird! I hope my pro-life views do not cause offence here; I mean no blanket judgmentalism or criticism as I know each and every decision to be difficult and painful. For every case there is always compassion and reconciliation, but here in the UK it seems we have gone way too far down the road of terminating "for social reasons". Thanks for reading. Kate xx

ON PSALM 139

Rest gentle, Little One,
not yet made perfect
and still as night

The Lord, the Giver of Life,
holds you in perpetuity
as at the Dawn of Creation;
But not for you
the inevitable progression
from the cradle to the grave

The Days ordained for you
were recorded in
His Book of Life
before one of them came to be;
From Spirit you came
and to Spirit you have returned -
without trace
were it not for
a Mother's aching heart

Shall I know you in Heaven, my Darling,
when physical beings
have melted away?
Shall we be made perfect
together?

A Mother grieves the loss
of her unmade child
but her tears are as vapour
compared to the vast oceans
shed by the Father,
lamenting the death
of His untold, unborn children
ripped untimely from the womb

And the murderous heart of Man

This is precious, deep and haunting. I read Psalm 139 before I read your poem. That Psalm always confirms my pro-life beliefs. I was forced by my husband to abort two babies. But thank God I have two wonderful sons. Thank you for this anointed poem.

The world can be difficult in the choices we need to make and each of us need to make the choice that is right for our souls without the pressures from others. This is a heart touching write and I know what it is like to loss a child and also what it is like to be in a room where other's have to make difficult decisions. Thank you for this sharing.

As deep and beautiful as a crystal pool, Kate.
Only women who have known this kind of loss can
fully relate to the profound verses you've penned here.
I am one of them.
We never forget, do we? Even when it happens to us as
a natural miscarriage, and we are not at fault.

Splendid Poetry, Kate!I feel this one deeply! I love the way you used one of my favorite verses from psalms 139:"the days fashioned for me when there were yet none of them"...I agree with you that His tears over the way we have FAILED to deal with abortion will one day be made known in full. I shiver to think of it!Many of us may be guilty of having made mistakes and used what we thought the only way out! However, this wholesale free sex/and kill, that our society has made legal, and condoned, is horrific, and we shall pay the piper one day!

possibility....were we make in our minds something beyond
reality...that's what makes it double hard
you coined a deep feeling here!

When we mourn someone's death, someone who's spent time around us, we celebrate their life, their joys, their accomplishments, and thus find closure. But the death of an unborn child is something I'd probably mourn for the rest of my natural days. How can one find closure for the pain of having lost a love so precious? Never having had the chance to hold it in our arms, or tell it he/she's loved, I don't know. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Powerful poem, Kate, on behalf of all mothers who have lost children in the womb. And I can relate very well since my spouse almost died when she lost our child in the womb, and her heart ached for a long long time. It truly is a devastating occurence for many many hopeful mothers.

Kate,

we never stop being a mother, not even to a child that has never been born. Only mothers know their own true feelings for their child. You have done it beautifully with this write.

Kate,
I can just imagine how hard this was for you. Many tend to be very judgemental without knowing the facts. We all must answer for our actions here on earth and I believe with circumstance your decision has it's own merit. Ours is a forgiving God so all that remains is your forgiveness of yourself. God Bless You, My Friend. Very well written piece.
