In a moment
I will rouse my being
engage my mind
and detach myself
from the sun's
consuming embrace:
licking microscopic layers
of filmy skin
from all parts
of my exposed body
with his firey
rough cat-tongue
as I lie prostrate
beneath him...
In a minute
I will breathe fresh air -
lifting my straw-hat mask
from my face -
and rejoin the
beachfront society
I have been
secretly watching,
observing the
intimate details
of leisure
as if through
a myriad
of pin-hole cameras
like a honey-combed
collage...
In a while
I will disturb the
soft smooth surface
of the pool
and see
a kaleidoscope
of coloured ripples
and animated light
vibrate through both
fluid and solid substance:
pastel waters, marble, stone...
Later on
I will vulture the culture:
Pythagoras of Samos
Hippocrates of Kos
St Paul of Ephesus
The Revelator of Patmos...
Or tomorrow, maybe;
even, perhaps, when I get home...
Just so long as you don't drown in the Aegean!;-)

One of the most beautifully composed poems to date, of all the
wonderful pieces I have read by you. It almost sounds like an
answer to my "Dreams" poem...hee hee.
I highly respect your talent, Kate.

Kate, you sure it’s only tea you have been drinking lately…lol. Only kidding, Poet, this is an incredibly well-written voyage through the deep hidden valleys of the soul, which bursts out onto the page of enlightenment, and brings pure joy. Welcome back, glad you made it safe and sound.
Perfect for fans of Bill Bryson, Elizabeth Gilbert, and Cheryl Strayed, this is more than a travelogue—it's a hilarious and heartfelt journey for anyone who has ever wondered: "Is this it?"
Melt down. If we get a poison gas attack, remember to read the leaflet. Something to do as we die, behind a matress..

Fabulous phrase, Kate; and it sounds like your island meltdown was a very interesting and a very enjoyable one.
