I was really impacted by this quote from a Prizegiving Day speech at my children's school last Saturday...
SO, WHAT'S A BILLION??!!... A billion seconds' ago, it was 1959 A billion minutes' ago, Jesus walked on the earth A billion hours' ago, our ancestors were in the Stone Age... And in the last 12 hours the world has spent a billion dollars on armaments

This truly puts that number into perspective, and truly shows where the priorities are in our violent world.

As a side note, I am fascinated that I can vividly recall things that happened a billion seconds ago. Wow!
