A Profile of Reporters
by Miller H Caldwell — Read all 115 poems by Miller H Caldwell
Team building in a small team. HQ had asked for a profile of my staff of four reporters to the children's panels. I though in verse was best! After all, they are all S T A R S.

A "Profile" of Reporters was requested by our Tom
The contents of each entry, was retrieved through CD ROM.
Our sex and ages differ, and qualifications too
No matter how I put it, we're an enigmatic crew!
So starting in the west, well-known in all the town
He played football in the Sixties, his team never going down
But caring by his nature, led him on to Social Work
And on Sunday, he's an Elder, serving in the Kirk
Seven years ago in '92, he found he'd itchy feet.
From a senior social worker post, he moved to Market Street.
In the East a star shines brightly and a birth is on its way
(Annandale & Eskdale's patch must be covered soon I'd say)
This legal mind sought refuge from the ills of human life
To concentrate on children whose needs are often rife.
Yet her facets are so many, you will never know them all
A world wide travel expert whose been also in "free-fall"
In farming matters too, she shares with us her season
the lambing and the harvest and E-coli's fatal reason
Yet with her we're relieved, it's a matter for our vanity
Her years bring down the median age, thus saving us our sanity
Should doubt remain we can't deny, this one is blessed with beauty
A slightly risky thing to say, yet why not, it's my duty.
Our latest entrant served her time in Municipal matters
Forseeing Council fortunes all ending up in tatters.
Her expertise in licensing makes her comfy at the bar
(More comfy she'll agree than reversing in the car)
Ah! What a find this was for us, replacing Stuart McCall
A further fugitive from the law, tho' granted, not so tall.
But what you see ain't all you get, in her she's Mystic Meg
With eyes sincere and jet black hair, she's known to pull your leg.
She knows the region very well, she's lived in East and West
This new life she has found with us, has filled her full of zest.
She shares her room with colleages, Monica and Bill
(Yes, they are still together, far from Capital Hill)
They swim together in a tank, generating calm
Calm, cool and collected, this one exudes charm
Kirkcudbright Hearings are left to last to introduce this man
Where do I start I ask myself, should I complete this yarn?
At last I've been persuaded, but I find this very hard
To start with, most have heard that I'm related to the Bard.
But 'A man's a man for a' that' , and that means lassies too
It's great working in this office where few males come into view.
I got here after travels far, in days of ordination
A missionary position, in Ghana, my location.
Four years in schools in social work at Stirling was to follow
Then a reporter post emerged, in Ayrshire's busy hollow
Since 1984 in Killie, then southward on to Ayr
"Auld Ayr, whom ne're a town surpasses, for honest men and bonie lasses"
Yet towns, I've found in D & G most certainly compare!
In 1992 I came, I saw, I settled with you here.
(I'm finally on line with some of my poems and stories.)
