The End of Year 2008
Tomorrow will be, the last of the year
2008 disappearing in temperatures low
I’ll have to wrap out when out I go
In scarf, gloves and leggings - a sight I fear
But the Ceilidh is on at the Cassa Mia
It sits by the Nith in old Dumfries town
Men looking sharp and women in gown
Eating a four courser with Tia Maria
But as the hour approaches, we stand and raise glasses
To those that we love; the lads and the lasses
We sing Auld Lang Syne and then we join hands
Up pipes the piper and joins the Pipe band.
2009 then enters the Home Coming Year
Scots the world over will suddenly appear
Robert Burns is 250 years old we have noted
So now I share some of his work now quoted:
Some few lines from Robert Burns for your enjoyment.
AULD AYR, wham ne’re a town surpasses
For honest men and bony lasses!
But pleasures are like poppies shed
You seize the flower, its bloom is dead
Or like the snow fall in the river
A moment white – then gone forever
Ask why God made the gem so small
And why so huge the granite?
Because God meant mankind to set
The higher value on it.
Prayer:
O Thou dread Power who reignst above
I know Thou wilt me hear
When for this scene of peace and love
I make my prayer sincere
The bounteous seraph sister-band
With earnest tears I pray
Thou knowst the snares on every hand
Guide Thou their steps away
When soon or late they reach that coast
O’er life’s rough ocean driven
May they rejoice. No wander lost
A family in heaven.
And Finally: A message for All mankind.
Then let us pray that come it may
As come it will for a’ that
That sense and worth o’er all the Earth
Shall bear the gree an’ a’ that
For a; that, an’ a’ that
It’s comin’ yet for a’ that
That man to man the World o’er
Shall brothers be for a’ that.
