Ali is my nephew, young, mid twenties.
The baby of the family, courageous, smiling cheerfully
amid the pain of eczema, the dark friend of his life.
Ruined his education, made him isolated
A smile of friendship hides his woes.
We saw him at his brother’s wedding last year.
Academically gifted but sullen
Brought out into life by a wife of charm,
And Ali with his girlfriend of a few weeks
Relaxed content with his beautiful friend
A weekend of happiness away from the daily planks of wood.
At Christmas Ali’s Mum rang. Ali’s girlfriend was expecting.
A third child to our surprise but first for Ali.
A mistake? A failure? A devastating future?
No Ali is caring, supportive, thoughtful.
We will support him along his path in life.
No, not one we would have chosen ourselves
But hey…just remember.
Robert Burns did the same with Elizabeth Park
as his father lay dying.
Without that act of love, I would not be born.
Who am I to judge?
I don’t judge. Life is precious.
The child is never at fault.
Much power and wisdom in your lines of compassion - well done.
(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
Be always safe,
Karen
(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in America, Karen Lynn in Texas. :)
