This is not-so-vaguely reminiscent of Saul. Which, of course, makes it pretty damned good. I could almost hear him reciting it in his whiskey-deep voice. Great job Alex.
I like REM's lyric, "It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine". No birth comes without a lot of pain. Outwardly, or inwardly as Jerry alludes to. I see outmoded structures and systems that will be destroyed-by force if history serves as a lesson. But I also can see to the other side. A good analogy is the destruction of Mt. St. Helens and the new life that is in the area now. A dead lake of acid sulpher that now holds fish. A black and flattened landscape that is a new forest. "i walk the pale hours of the dead/i bleed hot mercury in my room/i wail in jets of black cancer.." WOW. This may be personal but it has so many parallels to the world at large. Prophetic, I think. Powerful write!

The Beast is on its way, that is for certain. We all must come to grips with our own individual beasts' in order to conquer the whole. Good stuff.
