I have lived in Florida a long time, and love it here , but there is something about the Green Mountains of Vermont that keep calling me back.
When I was young I used to
roam in pastures gold and green.
I ran and played in fertile
valleys,near the bubbling streams.
I found a haven in the woods
beneath pines and evergreens.
I climbed maples and oaks
standing tall in the forest scene.
There were no cares or worries
in my childhood days.
I enjoyed the beauty of nature,
the wonders God had made.
I played in the waters of
sparkling lakes and in the cold
white snow.
I saw the sunlight light earth
each morning.
At night the moon cast its
golden glow.
All the world was alive,
glorious to see.
I wish I could go back to
times that used to be.
I was young and happy, I was
free to roam, where ever the
roads would lead me,
in Vermont my childhood home.
CLASSIC! to those of us who KNOW Vermont. And every line I happen to know is absolutely TRUE. I almost feel sorry for those who have never been to Vermont for it truely is a "different kind of place" And so far Vermonters have done pretty well on protecting it and keeping it GREEN(except for they've screwed up some of the rivers, but not many)
But most of all, since I do know Vermont, I know this poem rings from your heart and you have captured it in a simple perfect poetic verse. In fact, I can find no fault with this poem. It is masterfully done. I just wish you would post a picture to go with it. If you need some from Vermont, I've got quite a few pastoral shots I can send you...

Vermont was also my childhood home and I , too, miss it-As I tell in my memoir, my childhood there has given me a grounding that helped me through rough times after leaving-i enjoyed this and was touched with missing my home state as well
That's the way I feel to this day about my home in Indiana. Even though others live in that home now, it is still where my mind travels in dreams...a place where I felt safe, secure, and loved...a place peppered with orchards, gardens, and poison ivy that I always seemed to get into every summer!
