I read from her the words I wanted to hear all my life, at the end of my life, and they make me cry in solitude for what could had been...
For the rest of my time I will thank you for those tender words.
You are on the opposite side
of the emotional river,
calling me over,
but I cannot swim, not anymore.
Entering the last days of my life,
having living without, suddenly,
you are showing me the furtive
face of that love that never was…
You said to me,
“in another time, in another place,
I would have chased you
until you caught me…”
In another time, say eighteen sixty-three?
and another place, Savannah?
The Lady, the Officer and Gentleman,
and the magnolias.
Yes, another time in another place.
And now, too late, you are there,
on the other side of the emotional river
calling me over…
…and I am too old to swim.
"" And I am too old to swim'--------- AND I COULD KNEEL IN FRONT OF YOU, GEORG MATEOS, AND KISS YOUR HAND, LIKE I COULD KISS SHAKESPEARE'S HAND FOR HIS SONNETS!!!!!!!!!!! Liana Margiva
"…and I am too old to swim." There is so much sadness in this poem. Yet, it is in the knowing ... that we are set free. Regardless of age, it's never too late. Take a boat and reach the sunny shores.
I can't see how you're too old, when you can still have such romantic sentiments, borough that magnolia tulip, and paddle to beat hell! Love and Blessings! Jasmin Horst
Such a gamut of emotions are felt reading this poem Georg! How hard it is facing the thought of love being offered too late, yet the fact that it is even there, gives us something to feel good about! Beautiful poetry, Gray Cloud!;-)Cherish the love!
Georg this is so beautiful. Until we leave this life it is never too late to love and be loved in whatever form we might find possible. Lie back on that gentle river and float!
A poignancy in your words, Georg; well penned! BRAVO! Hope you are okay; you are still in my thoughts/prayers~!

A very heartfelt piece, brother. But hopefully, we ancient Eds will yet have many adventures - in other times, and in other places, and perhaps, even in other lives. And I don't believe we are ever too old to swim in love's waters.
