If you heart is broken...you should look, away from any city, in the middle of the fields and from a distance in a clear night with full moon to the Mount Fuji, with its white bride veil against that deep blue yet not dark sky background, then, your heart perhaps will heal...if love isn't lost forever...
“Houki Natsumi”, “sweet seventeen Natsumi”
a little princess of Kobe mountains gentle sides,
with “acarime”, beautiful eyes “slanted upward,”
showing “yancha”, a “mischievous” flash of light.
Around the “uchiike”, secret “garden-pond” I saw
your hair caressed by “kaze”, the “wind” divine,
on a “ninuri yuuyake”, a “sunset painted in red,”
and I was lost forever in the land of Japan.
Your image entered my heart like a “yatou,”
a “burglar that only comes at you by night”
to steal it in its “yuubae”, the “sunset glow,”
leaving after a crystalline “warai”, your “laugh.”
Being an humble “genji”, a humble “foreigner,”
“Koinonayami” or “pain of love now I have,”
my eyes full of “komizu”, my “tears of love,”
flowing like “koinoburi”, the stream of carps.
Receding like “kageboushi”, a “shadow figure,”
small, hiding on your diminutive timberland
of bonsai trees, like an ugly butterfly ashamed
to even be there, like an uninvited little fly.
I wish to be changed into a “ishi”, a garden “stone,”
where beloved Natsumi “suteppusu”, “steps” go by,
with “ureshinamida”, “tears of joy” in her eyes,
as her sweet seventeen are filling her heart.
