walking home from school
singing
Carpenters
Why do birds suddenly appear
every time you are near
just like me
they long to be
close to you
ahhhh crisp clean unpolluted child air
no cares of life air
and I’m singing like the world
is my stage
like I am
Karen
stopping, swirling
wwwwhhhhhhhyyyyyyyy
close to you
stick for a mike
on the day that you were born
the angels got together
and decided to create a dream come true
so
they sprinkled gold dust in your hair
and golden starlight in your eyes of blue
and the birds
the real birds
suddenly appear
and now I have a real audience
and
life
is
so good
because everything is waiting for me
because I can do
anything
be
anything
Karen if I want
whatever I want
the birds know they love me they appear
and
I get home and mom says
so sad
today Karen Carpenter died
she just starved herself to death
and
the birds
and
I
cried
wwwwhhhhhhyyyyyyy
close to you

Jose,
I of couse was older I imagine when this tragedy struck. Karen was the only who ever sang to my heart! Yes, sounds ....but I liked the Carpenters! I was tewnty four and going to be a singing sensation myself! Well, I get carried away...I just was quite touched actually, that one other, remembered my girl Karen...A tear comes to eye now, in remembrance of her, thanks for creating that tear Jose, Karen was worth it!

Though never a fan of hers, her passing made me pause for more than a day, to be sure.. your slide from delightful brightness to the dark, evocative ending was truly a beautiful write, Josie! Really good! katy.
