old man
sitting at the bus stop
chin in hand
you look solid American
middle class pressed khakis gray hair
but are you
are any of us
where have you been
to rely on that chin
now
was your life what you thought
was your dream such
that one day
you’d take your old man
walk
to the bus stop
so that I could see
your glumness
is this then
the future
these teetering steps to be driven
to
wherever it is you go
old man
talk to me
I don’t want to be you
I’m afraid……….of getting old.
and feeble
and gray
say
it’s ok
say
you had a good life
and there’s more
and that happiness
is real
say
something
anything
to make me want to keep at it
you weepy eyed old fart
you
mean
nothing to me
old man loser at life
crying in your chin cloudy memories in your eyes
stop
making me want to hate you
and what you mean
stop
making me want to hate life
and where it’s going
straight to that bus bench
straight to my chin
with gray hair
teetering steps
and
crybaby sad eyes
