I don’t often
read back over my work
rarely
partly the pain
partly the embarrassment
did I really write that
no couldn’t be not me
I would never
say
that
like
that
but there right there is my name
and
I sorta remember that phrase
and geez that ones kinda cute
and that ones kinda catchy
and boy that ones pretty dark
and here’s one that’s Really Deep
where
was I
when all these were written
is it a memory thing
a fog belt that comes over me
a retention problem
am I multiple personalitied
it is a sad day
when your babies become strangers
and yet there is a voice
throughout
that I recognize
may not quite believe that it is mine
or remember what brought
the moment on
but
I do know this voice
I hear me loud and clear
it

for whatever reason
these words are mine
they come from my heart
I put them here all lined up
marching across the page
because
I have to
like it or not
know them or not
they are mine
my words
my thoughts
me
think I’ll go back
to
not reading my stuff
