If Indeed I Must Compete

If indeed I must compete

Let it be against myself

I’ll always keep on trying

To outdo my very best!

Competing against another

Does not show my best

I might beat them on their worse day

So that doesn’t prove my best!

You see my real potential

Whatever that might be

Is found when I insist

On competing against myself!

If perchance I must compete

With someone besides myself

I’ll use Jesus’ standard as my example

And compare myself to Him.

“For I have given you an example

That you should do as I have done to you.”

John 13:15

So let’s not compete against each other

Let’s compete against the standards

Jesus left for us.
