Life, My Friend, Is Precious

I’ve never seen an old man cry
Until yesterday, that is, at church
A heart broken from loneliness
Allowed depression to set in
A retirement home is his place of abode
But there he doesn’t fit in
Barely able to read and write
Expenses swallow his little pension
No family has he alive
Society condemned him at 65
No offer of work has he
But how desperate
He wants to pitch in
For he still feels physically strong
He said he just wants to go home
And thinks of ending it all at times
Just to be with the Father in Heaven
Now that’s so sad, suicide is never the answer
So we said a prayer for him
Asking God to kindly lift
The spirit of depression that
Held his child in its awful grip
Oh, he cried, as we did pray
Eventually the tears dried up
And once again our Lord came through
And lifted the old man from his darkened pit
Oh, said he, if I could just spend some time
Vacuuming or cleaning tables at the church
I would once again feel useful; no need for pay
Just a simple green salad would do!
My friends, to you I urge
Look not upon your present circumstances with dismay
There are others worse off than you
Life is a precious commodity
No matter your age
Make the most of it!
“But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory,
and the lifter up of mine head.” Psalm 3:3
You love like Jesus loves.......I will pray for this man - and all those like him, for there are many. Your show of gentle affection, resurrected the hope of glory within him, Lena.
If we surrender ourselves to Him, He will use us to His glory!
Why look how your gift of telling the story, just used this dear soul to bring Jesus glory!
Love you, Rhonda

It is in those times when the Holy Spirit gets us out of ourselves, and opens our eyes to the suffering around us, that a connection is made called compassion.
True compassion can change anyones mindset, and heartset, and the life of another will always benefit from it.
Well done!

I have told you of my heart attack at the age of 40. I started visiting patients at a local hospital. I soon realized, I didn't have it so bad. And the ones I visited showed great courage. They keep going even from wheel chairs.
God Bless you for this,
Lew
(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :(
