Carpet or Wood?

If I had to chose between carpet or wood

The characteristic I ought to have

I would make my decision

After pondering the characteristics

Of the materials themselves!

Carpet is pliable, soft, and colourful

Carpet feels warm and comfortable underfoot

Carpet gives the impression of luxury

Is inviting and beckons you to

Slip off shoes and have a roll

But carpet hides fluff and dirt

By its nature is deceptive

It builds up static electricity

For a sudden unexpected shock attack

And makes you sneeze when you

Disturb buried dust in its weaves

Carpet is easily discarded

Once signs of overuse are observed!

Wood on the other hand

Is shiny and slick

Hard underfoot, but solid in support

Exposes foreign irritants, holds no prisoners

Like fluff and scuff, even dirt and spills

Thus easy to clean

Wood floors have nothing to hide

And can look quite stunning

With a few scatter rugs

Wood floors stand the test of time

And when in bad shape

Can be sanded, polished, and made like new!

So then the question I must ask myself is this

Would I rather store up earthy treasures

Like fluff and dirt, just to enjoy temporary pleasures

Such as a roll in the weaves

OR would I rather have Heavenly treasures

And enjoy forever pleasures?

Would I rather hide my defects

Or dare I expose them to the One who can restore me

In spite of my scuffs and dents

And make me brand new, like a fresh minted coin?

The choice indeed is obvious!

“The heart of the righteous studieth to answer;

but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.”

(Proverbs 15:28)
