A Friend Such As This

A friend is good to have, for sure

A friend you can trust, even better

But a friend who is willing to listen

Without being judgemental

Who understands your grief

Without condemning

Who remains steadfast at your side

Without complaining

Who shares your secrets with no one

In spite of temptations

Who sees only the best in you

Despite your negative frame of mind

Who offers encouragement

And ignores your shortcomings…

Can such a faithful friend be found?

John 15:15 tells of such a friend

In the person of Jesus the Christ!

For He himself said

“Henceforth I call you not servants;

for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth;

but I have called you friends,

for all things that I have heard from the Father,

I have made known unto you.”

What an amazing person,

This divine Jesus

Who, in spite of His deity

Has chosen you and me

To be His friend…and more

Now it is up to us to be

A faithful friend like Him

And in the process be willing to

Stand up for Him, No matter the cost!
