This one has been round the block almost as many times as I have. It seems to be well liked though. Linked here to an article on existentialist philosophy titled Flight From Freedom
We lived in cages, you and I,
Seeing each other as shadows
in a place with no light.
We stood reaching out,
our fingers almost meeting,
faces pressed to cold iron,
but people who held keys told us
contact was against the rules.
The others there all lived in cages
and did not complain.
When everyone is imprisoned
imprisonment is freedom of a kind
for those who can surrender.
Each day we reached,
almost touched. Almost....
Did our fingers ever meet,
did the glow we made light
our faces or was it just a trick
of my imagination that
even if you escape your on the run & they´ll hunt you down, but perhaps its better to be on the run, its the struggle that counts. i remember easy rider j nichelson to d hopper, they hate you because you eat the forbidden fruit, freedom. the ending is fine on the note of the incomplete saludos robin

Ian, there is so much truth spoken in this poem. It is deep indeed and pregnant with thought. Loved it. Bill Murray
This is one of your best, Ian... I agree with Gwen about these lines:
When everyone is imprisoned
imprisonment is freedom of a kind
for those who can surrender.
...every poem should contain at least one very memorable phrase, which carries the weight of truth and makes people say "yes... that's so true". And here you have it.
All the best,
Sara.

Ian... in my humble opinion, I call this 'the depths'.. in my other humble opinion, the layers of depth peal away while reading, revealing one damned introspective and very honest poet. You have the gift! katy xox.
The Matchmaker:
Angela Calminetti, mother of five, New Age practitioner and gifted psychic and telepath, is proud of her family ties and does everything she can to make sure that all of her younger siblings are as happy in love and marriage
After losing her boyfriend in a accident, Alecia believe she's been seeing him. But that can't possibly be? When Brayden reveals himself, or his soul, he asks her of a favor. But when that favor leads to her revealing feelings for her dead boyfriends
I agree with Sara about the most memorable lines.
The title is apt and appealing too -- circumstantial barriers can feel just like that.
When everyone is imprisoned
imprisonment is freedom of a kind
for those who can surrender.
...every poem should contain at least one very memorable phrase, which carries the weight of truth and makes people say "yes... that's so true". And here you have it.
All the best,
Sara.
Chills runs down my spine!!

Powerful and well stated, Ian!
