Bed of Stones
I would lie beside you on a bed of roses
and I'd lie down with you on a bed of eider down
but if I cannot break the chains that bind you
then I'll lie beside you on your bed of stones.
Though the wind may be raging all around us,
the cold rain floods the place where we must lie,
if I cannot find a way to free you from your burden
then I will stay forever under your winter sky.
If love's oils can ease the locks that hold you
And passion's power pulverise your rocky pile,
together we can build ourselves a mansion
and plant a garden, rose and camomile,
and love and trust will soften hardest bedrock,
all things grow and bloom where love is sown
our flowers will be stars in the sky above us
and our bed will be the softest eider down.
