Faces greet faces, looks all the seeing,
so meeting beauty most stunning expect
the best of what seems - the better being;
views to covet whose values we project.
Sometimes it’s true , gossamer goodness wears
Earth Angels’ guise, too, though the flaws that blind
more often confuse whose wide smiles, bare stares
come up empty, pretty but cruel, you'll find.
So, is it a mask? Eyes mirror the soul:
Read them to see what they veil and reveal.
Who trusts heavy lids where hidden lights troll?
Let the gaze reflect what the feelings steal.
Visage is a canvas contemplation:
Eyes, the highlights, cast its revelation.

It does have a shakespearean tragedy feel to it...Cleverly done..
Wonderful sonnet. Your use of the word "seems" brought to mind Hamlet and Shakespeare's repeated use of "seems" and "seeming" to convey illusion and deception. A thoughtful, well-executed piece.
cunningly wrought, troll vocabulary device i thought did it service, the eye in the picture that follows you, even if flawed, the sonnet works in movement & texture throughout a little suprisingly but jauntily
