Three Boxes
My Lord brought to me three boxes and sat them before me.
One box was old, tattered and faded and another was hard to see.
The one in the middle captured my eye for it was beautifully wrapped like a gift.
So, I asked him why he had put them there and as I spoke the first box began to lift.
As it floated before my eyes, my Lord explained it to me this way.
He said, “The faded box that has captured your eye represents yesterday.
It is faded and lost some of its luster because it now just a memory
And as time goes on” he pointed out it will fade even more for it was only temporary.”
Even as he spoke the box lowered itself and another lifted way up high.
“This,” he said softly, “Represents tomorrow you know not what it will bring or why.
The box simply vanished and the box I saw next was the one that was wrapped in Gold.
Somehow I knew what he would say even before I was told.
“This is today,” he said. “I have wrapped it because it is my gift to you.
Yesterday is over; its memory already grows old
But today is yours use it wisely. Show love in all you say and do.
I reflected over this for quite a while and finally began to know
Yesterday is gone, tomorrow is promised to no one
Today is a gift from our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, his only Son.
