If I Could Be:
If God said I could be anything I wanted to be.
I know my response would be, “let’s see.”
If I could be anything I wanted to be I would surely ask to simply be me.
Why me you may ask? If I were a bird I could fly free
And glide high over land and over the sea.
Maybe, I could ask to be a man as rich as can be
But I tell you I would still rather be me.
You press on telling me I could be an owl in a tree
Not knowing the dangers of the world around me
But the owl knows of these dangers you see
That is why he never blinks and he stays in the tree.
“Why do you not wish to be a king and people would bough before thee?
You ask and you ask but my answer is one of simplicity.
What I really want to be is what God made me to be.
I am his handiwork for I am what he made me.
Should I then say, “God I implore of thee
Please make me something you had not wished me to be?
I tell you my friend just as those birds fly over the sea
I will one day fly higher, held in his arms for eternity.
God made you and he also made me
He will give eternal life, forever, living in ecstasy.
God Bless
