Apathy, the Great Destroyer

We all know guns, bombs and wars cause the great destruction of all.

We all know that hatred and violence can cause many good men to fall.

We somehow overlook another form of cancer which threatens our dear land.

The great destroyer, apathy makes our soul too weak to stand.

We take what we have for granted and we refuse to see what is bad.

We simply say, “This too will pass.”  We forget the dreams our forefathers had.

They wanted us be a great nation.  A nation the world would admire.

Over centuries of being a nation, we have grown weaker and easy to tire.

We have also been guilty of putting ourselves on pedestals, placed on high

If things go wrong we simply hang our heads, feel sorry for ourselves and sigh.

Have we really forgotten that this land of ours was bought by the blood of others?

They fought and died for you and I, this makes us one and all to be brothers.

Leave us not become complacent to the sorrows which surround.

Let us sing for God above to hear the majestic songs that we sound.

Do not allow complacency to become our nation’s norm.

For if we care we can solve our problems and our country can reform.
