Seasonal Memories
Every season has memories that it can share.
Its autumn now and I stand in coolness of the air.
It brings back flashes of when I was a child at play.
When we would pile up the leaves and then dive in where they lay.
I remember when every Thanksgiving Day we went
To my uncle’s farm, oh the happy hours we had spent.
My uncle raised hogs and on Thanksgiving Day the whole family came.
The grownups would be hard at work while we kids ran to play games.
My Aunt would cook a glorious dinner of Turkey with all the trimmings so tasty.
Then we all enjoy it, including pumpkin pie and other pastry.
But, my favorite time came late in the day when the pork was brewing in big pots in the barnyard.
Before the grownups would make up the puddin’, they would crack open a bag of salt on the table
And we would feast on the pork for as long as we were able.
Those were happy days I remember with my Mom and my Dad
Along with my Aunts and Uncles and the great times we had.
There was also the knowledge that Christmas was only a month away.
But, for now we were content to just enjoy Thanksgiving Day.
(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :D
Seriously, though, this is a nice poem filled with warm memories, the kind we all like to read.
