Oh, for the Good Ole Days!
I have spent some time recollecting my memory of days gone by.
I have deliberated just what I see and why.
I must admit an awful lot of those memories are what I want to remember.
Things like the glorious spring, the warm summers and Christmas in December.
But if I am true to myself I must admit to this as I look back through the years.
I was a child and wanted to do the things that would impress my piers.
I too often would compromise my character by the desire to be one of them.
It is this desire which would many times stand between me and him.
You ask, “Who is HIM?” He is Jesus Christ, My Lord.
It was only when I got older that I picked up my spiritual sword
And struck down the very sin of my youth before it could grow.
Then I became more careful of the seeds that I sow.
It is now that I realize that the good ole days were not all as good as I thought.
For I was still looking for something but did not always follow what I was taught.
The good ole days were great in that I was young and full of life.
But they were also days that were full of strife.
It has been said, “In the good ole days, we respected our elders and dressed with modesty.”
In truth, we did to their face but would whine and curse them under our breath,
Showing no hint of honesty.
A child does not understand the troubles that life can deal.
He does not realize the power of honesty to heal.
These things he learns as he grows older and wiser, day by day.
I have learned that the ways of the Lord is the only true way.
Only when we receive him into our life and live it always
Can we truly say we will be with our Lord for the rest of our days.
Someone once said youth is wasted on the young and to that there is some truth, indeed.
But like any young flower, we sprout from the seed.
We reach for our Lord like the flower reaches for the Sun.
Our blessing comes the day when we meet with God’s Son.
As always, Lew, I admire how you write so easily from the heart. This was an interesting read and offers an honest insight into Lew, the boy. Now Lew, the man, is so much wiser. A true example of how one could change and embrace what is right in the eyes of God. You have done, well, precious brother. Thank you for sharing this part of you.
God Bless
