Prayer Evolves

When we were young we were taught to say our daily prayers.

They were more like a letter to Santa than about our worries or cares.

Dear God, protect Mommy and Daddy and my Dog named Rover.

We would find ourselves praying for the same things over and over and over.

As we grow older, we hopefully learn to fine tune our devotions.

We praise the Lord and thank the Lord and share with him our emotions.

Our prayers are not repeated pleading for this or for that or whatever.

Our prayers become more a “Thank you Lord,” for I know you leave my side never.

As we grow in the Lord we realize that if we need it, he already knows.

We begin to understand we need not ask for anything and that’s when our faith grows.

Now our prayers are conversations with our greatest and dearest friend.

He will always be there with us and give us strength all the way to the end.

When that end comes to pass, we will learn something more to add to our faith, indeed.

If ever we have asked for anything and he did not provide, it was something we did not need.

So remember when you pray to God, pray like Jesus taught and do not plead.

Our Father who art in Heaven, how holy is your name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done in Heaven and on Earth the same.

Remember when you ask of God, he already knows of what it is you ask.

The greatest gift he gives to us is faith to finish any task.
