As I write this I am watching the Funeral of Gerald R. Ford on the TV set. I could care less if he was a republican, democrat or whatever. He was a calming voice in a time when our nation had gone made with uneasiness. Wars, scandals and unrest caused us to become worried about our nations future. We are fighting those same battles today. Maybe that is one of many reasons why the funeral of Mr. Ford means to much.

Someone once said old presidents never die
They just fade away.
I find this to be a bit of a lie
As I watch his funeral service today.

It is true that the presidency of Gerald Ford faded as years went by.
We had forgotten that he was a voice of calm during a time of a great unrest
But upon his death a spark ignited and I think that I know why.
Only after he passed away are we reminded that he tried to do what was best.

Our nation goes through trying times and we often go astray.
We often forget what it is that our forefathers dreamed for us all
We think that in this new age we have found a better way.
Only after we have failed do we realize that we can fall.

A voice which calms us in times of trial is a gift from God above.
He was a simple man and never dreamed that he would be one day
The president of the United States but he heard the call and answered undying in love
Rest in Peace, Mr. President and join the Master in Heaven to stay
