I had a wonderful and restful night last night. This is not always the case. There have been nights when I finally got up and booted up the computer for I realized I was not going to sleep, simply toss and turn. This night, though was restful and seemed so short for sleep is like that. That is why I penned the next poem.

Poem Artwork

I lie under the cover of darkness and count the seconds as they go by.

I allow my mind to drift lazily into the wonderful state of euphoria in which I lie.

My mind is focused on nothing; nor does it want to be.

It has been a long busy day and my thoughts only want to be free.

I lie under the cover of darkness and hear only the sound of the night.

As I relax I hear my own breath with eyes closed for they want no light.

Soon soft dark clouds will envelope me and I will drift off to wondrous sleep.

I have prayed to my God to watch over me as into the dark cloud I creep.

I lie under the cover of darkness; a wonderful journey I will take.

My body relaxes and my senses are dull and I enter a dreamless state.

This time of rest is God’s gift to me and my dreams are quiet and kind.

They are made up as a composition and processed by my own mind.

I lie under the cover of darkness but I am not unaware of its existence.

As I am carried off into dreamland my mind gives no resistance.

Sleep, oh body and mind and let the Spirit rest, too.

Let this wonderful state of rest last the whole night through.

So many scriptures flowing in my head. Psalms talks about God is in the darkness is His pavillon; when I lay down I dream dreams. Psalms 18:.... talks when I lay down, then I will awake in His likeness and see Him face to face. Rest my brother, the Father God watches over you and His protection is never ending.

Lew,

Very somnatic and promising...now, I lay me down to sleep! :)

Like yourself, I pray...but I do so, according to Jeremiah 33:3 (some call it God's phone number!) I call upon His name - a different name every night; whichever the Holy Spirit chooses for me - and give Him my sleep and dreams and visions. He is faithful and awesome!

Glad you are getting your Zzzzzzzzzzzzz's!

Lay down your head and drift off into no man's land...ah, this poem is a reminder of many nights I've had. I liked the cute photograph...such a great idea.
