He never had a father who cared for him as a father should.
He wasn’t kind, forgiving or ever showed that he understood.
Therefore he did not have a male figure to look up too.
Instead his father was a man to fear; he never felt he pleased him no matter what he might do.
When he grew up and found that he was soon to be a father to a new baby boy
He felt that the child was a problem, someone who would only annoy.
He did not learn from his father so he did impart love to his son.
What started with the forefathers would be devastating by the time it was done.
His son felt unloved, unworthy of being loved and of no use.
He realized not that he was a product of a father’s abuse.
He, like his father before him was a victim of the forefathers oversight.
That is why he got a gun and tried to rob a store one night.
It would not end happy and it ended in his death at an early age.
The sins of the fathers were passed to the son and his life was the wage.
Mourned only by his mother, he lay dead in the grave.
It would have taken only the love of his father for his life to be saved.
Peace&Grace,
Sharon
So sad, isn't it. Good news is that being abused does not doom you to be an abuser. Many of us came out of the experience determined NEVer to harm our children. Or anyone else!!
Thank you for this sensitive, intelligent, and deeply sincere poem.
May your life be filled with poetry, and your nights ah-some.
Always, 'Pea' <3
