Life precedes death

If you look up the definition of death in the dictionary it reads like this. “The cessation of life and all associated processes. The end of an organism’s existence as an independent entity; as in a nonliving state.” Sounds cold doesn’t it? Life means; along with other things, “The state that precedes death and follows birth or conception.” Equally as cold.

This poem paints a dictionary picture of life and death and then attempts to fill in the blanks.

Poem Artwork

To exist; to breathe my heart keeps beating and I have been born into life.

It is nothing more than a status I share with animals of the wild, enduring strife.

Life is the essence of the manisfestation  of being or existing; the process of living.

A long and sometimes unhappy trip toward the land of the unliving.

We live our lives, guarding ourselves from what we cannot escape.

The long sleep is brought about by the Grim Reaper in his hooded cape.

We continue to value life until comes the final close; our last Earthly breath.

We know not what lies on the other side of this thing called death

Once we find ourselves moving into the next chapter of existance

Our only courage is built on faith and it’s persistance.

When I sleep I pray God will watch over my soul till once again I awaken.

It is only faith that keeps me hopeful and I will not let that be shaken.

What will I awaken too on the other side of death? A question to ponder.

I know not what it will be but my Master does so I will not wonder.

Hoooooooo I like this. I think you are prepared for what's coming. Bless you for that. I, too, think a lot of the ending. I think it is a good thing to prepare oneself as death can come as a theif in the night. Marguerite
