I got down on my knees and prayed to God these words.
I asked how he could allow men to kill angrily taking up their swords.
I asked how he stood still to allow a twelve year-old girl to be abused.
I wanted to know how he stood silently while children are beaten and bruised.
I ask why hurricanes destroy people’s homes and their lives.
How he could allow the loss of children, husbands and wives.
Why is it that you tell us one and all to love one another?
But you stand quietly while we persecute sister or brother?
His answer was one that pierced through my heart like a cutting sword.
I was overcome with grief as I listened to each word.
He said, “I did not proclaim that these things should happen as they do.”
These come from human frailty that must be overcome by you.
The kingdom of Heaven, the place you strive to be.
Lies on the other side of the widest and roughest sea.
That sea is the Earth where you find yourself now.
The only way across that sea is to climb aboard my ship while waves crush against the bow.
Otherwise the waves will beat upon you and try to drag you down.
My son you must overcome the horrors of this world or your faith will surely drown.
Fear not he who kills the body but can do no more to you.
Fear me for I take note of the things that you do.
However my son, you can overcome that fear
If you simply know enough to accept my Son as a friend you hold dear.
For the earth is a temporary home for one and for all.
What happens there shall come to an end when you hear my trumpets call
I loved your poem -- especially its conclusions. May the day come when we can all live at peace.
