The Old Rugged Cross

Have you ever wondered what that old rugged cross would say if only it could talk? “Why did you choose me, dear Lord…this is a heavy load to bear? I am only pieces of wood; not worthy to this sad and lonely task.”

Poem Artwork

It  was made of wood from the forest with no luster of its own

Until the day my lord was bound and upon this cross was hung thereon.

It would have never been more than wood from a tree that would soon be remembered no more

But when they hung Jesus upon that cross it came to represent the promise of Heavens door.

He hung upon that cross and suffered for us all; for our sins were too great and would drag us to the fiery pits of Hell.

The sky grew dark and the sun refused to shine that day.

It seemed as if the world would then come to an end but God does not work that way.

Three days later that cross stood empty as was the tomb in which Jesus was laid.

He defeated death and because he did our road to glory was made.

Now when we think of that cross where the dearest and best gave up his life

We know it is a source of encouragement to help us through our lives and all its strife.

Trust in God and live your life with love for all you meet, both good and bad.

For we all rejoice in the love and wonderful courage that our Lord, Jesus Christ had.

Though he died he lives on still in our hearts as we live each day.

He has sent the comforter to be our guide; if we listen he will show the way.

The cross also reminds us of our daily struggles and that we need to rely on Him who already carried us, our sins and who opened the gates to heaven.
God continue to bless you,
Kathy

Lew, this is the very first time that I have ever seen the wooden cross to make any sense (inspirationally) because, before, the cross only symbolized (to me) a Roman way of control and utter agony. And I always wondered why our churches would worship images of Roman punishment. Still, I would rather see the Life of Jesus celebrated because it was the manner of His life that celebrated His Father. His death, on that cross, showed His complete surrender and commitment to His Father, and this was supposed to lead the way to the salvation of Believers, but many Christians (and others) do not understand this symbology. Hmmm...

AAAAAAAAAAAmen Bro.
Loved this, and looking at that empty cross is always reassurance that Jesus snatched away the keys to death, made the Devil look dumb and the Victory was won. Still we wait till Kingdom come...soon.

grace and peace

Such an inspiring write my friend, yes...if we hold tight to Him an live our life for Him putting Him first the Lord will always guide us in the direction that will allow us to achieve happiness, peace, and satisfaction...but we've got to be willing to listen to that still small voice! A great write my friend, uplifting!
Blessings,
Joyce B.
