Why me, Lord is what Mama used to say
Whenever things did not go her way
I spilled milk on her newly waxed floor
Or came in but didn’t close the door
If my sister came home late
Because she lost track of time while on a date
When faced with any quandary or source of aggravation
“Why Me, Lord” Mom would exclaim in frustration
When I grow up and found a love whom I could marry
It is interesting to me that this exclamation was my query
Then, when I became a Dad to my three kids
“Why me, Lord” are the words I said
However I was asking why he blessed me as he did
Why me, Lord can be a term or expression
That reflects a tone of pure frustration
But it can also be expression of appreciation
“Why me, Lord.” Why do you bless me like you do?
I have loved ones and I prosper and it’s all because of you
How is it, Lord that you forgive me so repetitively?
When I tend to fall short or fail you so constantly
Yet, you seem to dwell on my successes and always tend to encourage me
I know not why you love me like you do
But I know why I love you
You are my Lord and master and my reason to live
So with all my heart and with all my soul please accept the praises that I give
