“What part of ‘no’ don’t you understand?” she would shout
“Is the definition of that word hard to figure out?”
I would stand and brace myself for I knew I was in for a reprimand
“I’m telling you ‘no’ for your own good,” she would say. “Is that so hard to understand?
I must admit as a child I did find it hard to comprehend
All I did was cross the street. The whole world didn’t come to an end
Maybe my mom was over-protective. Maybe she worried far too much
But that is what mothers do, you know. They worry, care, pray and such
I really feel as I look back that her prayers were answered
That God heard and kept a watchful eye all because of her
Today she is in his loving arms at a place I cannot yet see
But I know because of her prayers it is where I will one day be
Today I would give anything to hear her voice once more
But I do hear the echoes of her love and I will soon meet with her at Heavens’ door
