‘Twas after dark on All Hallows Eve

On the first snowy night of fall

Warm stalls awaited all

The old barn was remodeled and cozy

But still something lingered

A strange chill in the air

Hermes, the young colt, done with his hay

Said, “Mom, I’m bored.  Hey lets all dress up!”

“Mom, what should I be?”

His patient mother replied to her son

“What a subtle monster you are,

You can be Frankenstein, that will do fine.”

Tribute piped up, “I’ll be the court jester”

“That fits you!”  Says Wings

“Give me those wraps, I’ll be a mummy and hide over here.”

“You guys are scaring me. Did you hear THAT?”

Poseidon Interrupts with a toss of his mane

“I want that purple scarf and sparkles on my toes.”

“Oh yeah I’ll be the ONE!”

“The center of everyone’s attention!”

“And I” states sweet Amy, “in billowing lace,

“Will be your fair princess

My steps will be graceful

And all heads will bow”.

Quietly in her stall while munching on hay

Angel mumbles something under her Breath

About silly games and child’s play

“Spoil Sport,” Hermes says

“But hey lets all take a vote!

About our mom and Uncle Banjo

And what their costumes should be.”

And so they all decided that Jaz would be Mary Poppins

As she is Practically Perfect in every way

Uncle Banjo in all his wisdom was unanimously voted,

Merlin the Wizard, oh but of course!

As Angel rolled her eyes and looked the other way,

The others dressed up and went out and about,

Trotting and prancing cavorting around

Doorbell ditching all around their new town.

They took their treats at will

From all of the neighbor’s yards

And left their tricks on each and every

Perfectly lovely and manicured front lawn.

A good time was had by one and all

Until a three foot tall ghost with parents near-by

Gave Wings a terrible fright, which made hum turn tail

And lead the rest to the barn-post haste.

At least there wasn't a headless horseman among them. Can you just imagine their fright?

What beautiful horses you have. The poem is really "horsey" and well done with a vivid "Halloween" imagination. Good job!
