I wish

If I were to want for anything,

It would surely be for wisdom.

If I were a praying soul,

I would pray to know some answers.

That the choices I make and the words I utter,

Are chosen with care and cause others thought.

That when I discipline my students,

Or advise my own beloved children,

That my words are right; they hit their mark

When I work with a difficult horse,

Or rescue that unwanted pooch,

That my timing and touch say the things I intend,

To give these innocents an extended, contented life.

I wish to think before I act,

To ponder my words and deeds.

I believe in the consecutiveness of all things,

And that we are forever responsible for all we do.
