Who is God?

Such a big question--My granddaughter saw it on an old Life Magazine cover and answered it right away!

Who is God?

Writing this title, I am afraid it seems,

That I might know some deep answer,

To a question whose origins,

Are older than water, and sky, and dirt itself.

My granddaughter, when asked, had a simple reply,

“You know, Grandma, He’s that guy in the sky,

The one who does all the good stuff.

He has always been up there and always will be.’

She said it with such presumptuousness,

No argument over doctrines or who’s Bible is right,

She’d no need to talk of faith or truth,

Or right and wrong, or of Heaven and Hell.

Then I seemed to recall, from my own simple reading,

That one of the titles God used for himself,

Was to simply say,

“I Am.”

Such a great question. It will be interesting to read all the answers. To me he is "the supreme being, maker, protector, healer of all.He is ever constant , everknowing, our strength and salvation....M HE IS ,,"I AM".....

'I Am' - WHAT? I am always curious about the answer to this statement. To quote 'I Am' without explanation is to assume that the answer is obvious. It's not obvious to me. Similarly, when Descarte's uttered the famous words that became the basis for Western philosophy 'I think therefore I am' I am curious also to inquire 'I think therefore I am - WHAT?' I'd appreciate some input on this.

good you poemed this Karen, makes the mind think again. I like the part about doing the good stuff. This is the way I think about God, so many people blame him when things go wrong, I don't play the blame game
