Her Daddy
I received a call from a man;
Our city police officer who patrols our school.
His daughter of eleven wants to learn how to ride,
She started her lessons tonight,
On her daddy’s trusted police horse, Buddy.
As I do to ease nerves, I made small talk with her,
Soon she decided I wouldn’t let her get dumped,
She opened up and talked up a storm.
Talk turned to her dad and how it was,
To have dad be a cop and all that entails.
Her eyes lit up and her smile grew wide,
“My daddy is amazing, he’s my hero.
My dad is everything good a man can be,
He helps kids to be safe, he is gentle and brave.
If I ever get married, I hope he is like my daddy”
Her words and her worship,
Raised goose bumps on my flesh.
What an incredible gift this man had given to his child,
The gift of himself as he worked to be his best.
What more could any little girl want?
In a world where there is so much abuse towards children it was so good to hear of one child who is safe, who has a loving father who keeps her safe and who works to keep the world safe for many others. Marilyn

Like the twins, the tears are streaming down my face, too, having lost my Dad, 10 days ago. As a "Daddy's Girl," there's an emptiness in my heart, now, having lost my best buddy, but I know he's always with me and I know I made him proud. (Unlike some fathers, mine was never backwards when it came to expressing how he really felt about me.)
Beautiful poem,

The gift of himself as he worked to be his best.
The best gift any father could ever possibly give to a child, and I like his horse's name, too!
