Court appointed

I introduced myself and held out my hand,

(A person’s handshake tells so much).

His mamma cried and his daddy held her hand.

“You are the one”, she said, “We really need to speak,

You are the one who can help my child,

My only child, my son.

The judge has sent us here to you,

He so badly needs some help,

If things don’t change, they will take him from us,

Please, we know he is tough, we’ll apologize now.”

The principal handed her tissue,

We rose and I received his file.

We shook hands again, and I left the room,

Too humbled to hold back my tears.
