Poem Artwork

I refused to listen when others took me aside,

To tell me that she might not make it;

That leukemia was such a dire disease.

For I knew in the depths of me that  it could be beat.

I didn’t need a reminder of the reality,

Or of the sobering results of so many tests,

And the uncertainty of what was in front of my little sister,

What I needed was to be with her and love her.

And when I wanted to fall apart,

Or when fear overcame her and she crashed.

I pictured us together riding horses,

Just as we had when we were kids.

I put it out there each and every day

To God, The Universe, or whoever was in charge,

That she had so much more of life to live,

And I held to the belief,

That she would resume her precious life.

And I held on tight to being grateful,

For all that was glorious in our world.

To the silence of a snowstorm,

The wonder of a sunset,

And of the earth coming alive each spring.

And I am so incredibly thankful,

To the miracles of research, and science,

And the donor from Germany,

And to our family’s unwillingness to give in or give up,

And to my sister’s stubborn nature,

And to the hundreds of prayers that were sent out in faith,

For my sister is living her life.

There is Faith in knowing God, combined with the positive and sincere gratitude of many, one can not only accomplish the miracles of life, they can attain the essense of life. Your strength is more than evident, we are praying with you and hoping for Gods Hand to touch your entire family....

love and peace...

Test, Doctors...and then God gets to say the last word.
Happy that sis made it, always is delightful when those little miracles are bestowed upon us.

I am so happy for you and your sister for I know how painful it is to lose a younger sibling especially one we are close to. I have lost two of my younger brothers over the years...one when he was onjly 18 the other when he was but 45 and I still miss them both terribly at times. I am fortunate thought to come from a big family and still have 3 brothers and 4 sisters alive to love and have love me.

Dear Karen,
You showed great wisdom in your refusal to accept. Acceptance of the condition is labeled as one of the "steps" one is suppose to go through when stricken with any form of cancer. I refused to accept my so called termianl diagnosis and 25 years later here I still am. Your refusal to accept your sister's prognosis was heard and answered. It's too easy to give up and accept. I say to anyone, fight, fight, fight!
Best to you both,
Marcia

How important it is to be in a constant state of thankfulness...for those things big and small....you again, Karen, have moved me to tears.

This poem is like a prayer of thanks. You carried your worries graciously, not knowing what was ahead, but you gave your faith over to God, believing he would do what's best. I am so glad that today you can attest to the rewards your sister has received--and you, too. Blessings.
