Poem Artwork

Carefree

As he held his head in his hands,

The young man cried.

“Its so hard to be an adult,

So difficult to be all grown up.

Such a carefree youth he had had:

Playing super heroes and drowning worms,

Skipping stones and catching snakes,

Every day held magic, wonder and joy.

But his carefree ways and carefree days,

Now included a pretty little gal,

And a new life on the way,

Who would look to this boy to be a man.

So with bills to pay and decisions to make,

The young man dried his tears.

He pulled himself up and rose to the challenge,

A lot less carefree, but a lot more a man.

You've penned it well my friend, a touching write that many can relate to. A beautiful picture and write, inspiring and realistic. I've always said that there are so many things that could be worse, drugs, prison, and so much more...with this beautiful new life is born one that we could not imagine our life without. Well done! Enjoyed!
Blessings from Ky.

Karen, I don't know how I missed this wonderful poem, but glad I came to visit your site. I can so relate to this poem of caring and truth. My son just had his first child, a son of his own. Yes it does make our son's grow up and become men so that their children can look up to them. I loved this poem and it touched my heart.
Peace, love, and light,

This write attests to the fact that many a "carefree" boy has been molded by circumstance into a man. But only if the woman that raised him, raised him right. Beautiful family. Congratulations, Karen!

A clear sign that it is not always puberty when a boy starts moving toward being a man... a clear and concise write.

Very strong write with a mother's pride showing in every line. It is good that he rose to the need to be a man but I hope he never loses his boyhood wonder.
