Caught between a rock and a hard place, as so much of our seemingly "disempowered" life appears to be globally these days. I guess we have to become desperate enough, personally concerned and impassioned enough to try to make a positive change a) by becoming involved and pro-active b) by bringing our perceived "wrongs" to the forefront of attention so that others are aware and "enlisted" to the cause c) by ceaselessly applying pressure in tangible ways for change. Our passivity and selfabsorbtion pass for silent acquiescence and therefore approval of the way in which the world is run "on our behalf". Opting out is an inevitable result of disenchantment but one which only exacerbates loss of control. You stir us up and impassion us ceaselessly with your writes, TRASK, and I admire your tireless crusade against what you see as evil. I wish I could rise up and be counted in the way that you are prepared to be. It will take all this, and more, to cause a sea-change... but we have to start somewhere and with someone... soon! Trask, I know you mean well with your thought-provoking writes, yet as an American, it is our duty to VOTE! I am a lifelong Democratic, but I will not vote for John Kerry! Our country is at war with terrorists, and we cannot afford to allow them to win! Our sitting president inherited this mess, and these S.O.B.�s need to be stopped! I also believe that the presidential election wastes way too money, which could be put to much better use (i.e. schools, books, police, roads etc.), and not necessarily in that order. I agree, there are many shortcomings in our country but each and everyone of us AMERICANS, must stand up and be counted, or else, we have absolutely no business griping about anything that isn�t right. We cannot stick our heads in the sand, although the terrorists would love to kill us all, and then stick our heads in the sand! You have remarkable capabilities and should encourage everyone who is legally able to vote in this country, to do so. If we all sit on the sidelines, not only will the terrorists aboard win, but also those evil S.O.B.�s who are roaming, raping and pillaging throughout our own cities and streets, across our great beautiful nation will too! I personally will not surrender to anyone who cannot or will not understand, that those that died for us to be a free nation, did not die in vain! And, especially for the children who do need to be able to play and grow up safely, need us to remain vigilant and constantly alert for those evil S.O.B.�s that prowl and prey upon the innocent people of our great nation.
