Kimmy,
A great writing. After being married to the same wonderful lady for 30 years, I can echo your sentiments. I have no regrets for staying with and loving mine. Thanks for the gentle reminder.
Incredibly wise. Every married {or otherwise committed} couple
should read this!! B R A V A ~!!! 'Pea' <3 {PS: After 53 years of marriage, I can honestly say that the sacrifices that one must make are nothing beside the rewards that come with willingness to compromise and. . .yes. . .try, try again!!}
Sometimes relationships are like slamming a revolving door, frustrating and full of whys and ifs.
When a relationship tends to go rotten one doesn't need to waste time mending what is melting away.
Trying sometimes is like saying I love you to a empty mirror.

A thought provoker for sure: those that think the grass is greener find out that they have to work to make it as beautiful as it was in their own backyard. Most of them fail, miserably. :) Well done!
This grass-looks-greener-on-the-other-side thing boggles my mind. What a waste of time and energy. It's probably boredom...not finding constructive things to do...that makes the eyes and thoughts wander. No stick-to-it-ive-ness, is what I say. Much better to work with what you have than to go chasing the unknown and piling on a whole heap of unnecessary pain! Great write, Kimmy. Hope the many wanders take heed! :)
A wonderful write expressed very well I might add! I am proud to say that my marriage has withstood many tests of time during the past twenty eight years! It hasn't always been a bed of roses, but much giving and much taking...changing minds, and ideas, and conforming to the way of others as well as accepting many new things, but it does take two! It is a daily effort for both...I loved the your ideas within this write it gives the reader food for thought! I believe in keeping one's marriage young, take time out for each other, get away for a day or weekend. Go back and visit places we visited while dating, do something a bit risky, and let loose every now and then! There is always hope! True love if given a chance can rekindle! Great write!
Blessings,
Joyce B.
Very well expressed Kimmie. It is so hard to maintain a long term relationship in these high pressure times with children who turn 16 when they are only ten, when all the news that is broadcast is bad, and man and woman struggle just to exist day to day. However if a fire burned once and the embers still glow even below the ashes their is always hope.
hello Kimmy dear heart, when i saw the title I thought you were making fun of me again and my to, too, but found a very close to my marriage poem. my wife and i are going through the being together long time blues and paying our love life dues. I always tell her that this is just the way life is after being together for a long time. It is important that we accept change in a more positive light. The light hit me big, I had to chose between husband and pig. I chose to keep being my wifes husband instead of the pig. So I treat her loving and affectionate, even though the candles burn low at times. You know that love flame that once torched a bedroom. Which now only torches hardly nothing at times. Life is a trip sometime and we are all on the voyage. Where are we going to end up, sometimes it's hard to know. But love and respect in the heart and soul for each other helps make things better. They did a survey on the web about what the most important thing in marriage was. It wasn't sex, it was learning to have fun with each other. This my wife and I never flunk out on. We ride and eat, play games and sometimes hit the casino. We both agree about the donating part but it seems fun to do. We use to roller skate but that's out, the bicycles still come into play though, we're about to bring them out of the dust. All in all once I realized what the odds were i started to over come, adapt and improvise. One thing I don't do is drink and use drugs, but sometimes I tell my wife if i was a drinking man, I would be drunk as all out doors when she gets on my nerves sometimes.
There are over ten million stories in the naked mean city Kimmy, I never want mine to be the worse. so it takes a little effort or a whole lot of effort. Besides I don't scare easy, I'm not going out like a darn chicken. Roasted on a over pan, being sliced up by life and served to some chumps plate, chump being the devil. Oh yea he's waiting for your lovely little chops too. Ok this is enough. Until the next time, have a nice day and think good thoughts. Well ink good thoughts too. I guess I should take my own advice, it's hard to do, it's hard to do. Thanks. Love ya. Onepoet
Hey, I haven't even told my wife I love her lately, think she get jealous about me telling you. It seems easier telling Kimmy, hey practice makes perfect, symbolism Kimmy, symbolism. Anyway we know what the deal is, or do we. What's up with this love thing Kimmy? help! a brother needs some help.
Maybe we should look the word love up in the dictionary book. Why is love so darn strong in first meeting, then after years it starts deleting? Don't try to answer any of these questions my dear. I'll just go away where I came from, back to cyberspace, peacefully, 10-4
After reading your comment to your daughter....you made sit still in thought thinking about what you said.......maybe the reason I am still married to the same person...even though i had more than enough reason so many times to just walk away!!

Kimmy,
Enough is enough when either mate becomes abusive in any way. Marriage is hard work, but nothing can compare to still being in love as my husband and I are, after 22 years of marriage. It's not always perfect and it never will be, but there is a deep understanding of one another and a love that continues to grow. Perhaps reflecting on what brought them together in the first place, would be a good place to start when asking "when is enough, enough?"
Hugs, Laura
To answer my daughter, Mara, below...the newlywed...you asked,
"But when have we tried enough? Is enough, enough?"
My initial response is to ask back..."When should God give up on us?"...but being one who was in the enough is enough relationship myself, and ending it...because I couldn't cope anymore, or what ever anyone's reason behind disolving their union may have been...still doesn't mean you agree to the outcome, it's sad, it's something that should be taken just as serious as the marriage itself, and the reasons behind it must be a reason that God will find it in his heart to forgive you for...seek help...don't rely just on each other...if it ever gets so bad, and you can't see the light...stir up the coals and blow on the faint glow beneath...rekindle the flame and ask God to help you both.
You will know in your heart if its truly time to go...but if there's ANY hope...DON'T walk away...pray, and be still enough to listen...
I Love you Mara,
Mom
Kimmy you hit the target with this gem. Funny last night I watched Woody Allens husband and wives, and it made me think about how easily we toss our mates. Of course there are reasonms for separation(divorce) like mental and physical cruelty that can't be checked. This is an excellent piece!
Kimmy friend ...
It seems to be a pandemic on this planet now. Relationships/marriages starting off with a bang, encountering difficulties, and then calling it quits. Sheesh! If people could just understand that in this life there will be tribulation, and that the gold of anything with potential, or the possibility of good coming out of it is refined in the fires of adversity, perhaps more marriages would last.
It's never greener over there, it's just the same. I've learned that first hand. All you find "over there" are human beings with the same kinds of problems that they have here, and the same dysfunctional modes of communicating. Excellent heartcry! Welcome back poet!

I love this line. It is so true.
Unfortunately, it's easier to say "I tried" than to try, try again. But when have we tried enough? Is enough, enough? Hmmm...

Well, Kimmy. It's just a bit late for me. I just got my divorce certificate. But my ex and I are best friends and we will always be thus. I think you make some very worthwhile points here and I thank you for sharing them. Love and peace to you,
