The bad news is that I recently underwent a hernia operation. I was told it was a “minor” procedure. I came to learn what that meant. A minor operation is what the medicos perform on some OTHER person. It was to take six weeks to achieve 95% of my prior fitness. I expect the remaining 5% will take several months. The good news is that I feel fine and am improving daily. I have achieved a perspective on my good fortune and now truly understand the minor nature of the whole episode. This is my attempt to project some humor onto the event.

***************************************

Down through the years, all those burgers and fries

Had stuck to my waistline, like honey draws flies.

Coupled to facts like a stomach wall weakness

Would lead to no good and result in a mess.

Doctors had warned me said facts would conspire

To cause quite a blowout of my personal spare tire.

And that is what happened with one powerful sneeze,

I blew a big hole in my tire. Hole-y Geez !

I was left with that hole quite near the plumbing

That needed repair, and with gas causing numbing,

I presumed that the fix would be high tech, custom fit.

What the doc, in fact, used was a tire repair kit.

This is the manner in which ruptures are fixed.

They plug up the hole, no if, buts, or tricks.

Then, through a slit in your gut, they commence to insert

A mesh made of non-degradable stuff quite inert.

The muscles and tissue that just get cut through

Simply grow all around the netting so true ,

Until neither is showing an evidenced fix,

The physician is done; whilst his money belt clicks.

Hernia surgery is minor. At least, so they say.

Its cost is quite major and as we damages pay,

We note this operation leaving money purse thin,

Removes nil from one’s body. It puts something in.
