Someone sent this to me via e-mail and it touched me so overwhelmingly that I felt I had to share it. This is the most heart-stirring picture I've ever seen in my life.
The Photo is the "Pulitzer prize" winning photo taken in 1994 during the Sudan famine. The picture depicts a famine stricken child crawling towards an United Nations food camp, located a kilometer away.
The vulture is waiting for the child to die so that it can eat it. This picture shocked the whole world. No one knows what happened to the child, including the photographer Kevin Carter who left the place as soon as the photograph was taken.
Three months later he committed suicide due to depression.
After his suicide...this was found in Kevin Carter's diary:
"Dear God,
I promise I will never waste my food no matter how bad it can taste and how full I may be. I pray that He will protect this little boy, guide and deliver him away from his misery.
I pray that we will be more sensitive towards the world around us and not be blinded by our own selfish nature and interests.
I hope this picture will always serve as a reminder to us that how fortunate we are and that we must never ever take things for granted." _____________________________________________________________________________

I really felt the pain of the child, as well as the photographer, for his inability to have saved this child. Wars are so cruel, and it is often the children who suffer the most.
Jeanette, this reaches down and pulls out the core of the soul - the pain I felt as I looked at & read this caused me much grief. I wanted to cover my eyes and just scream to the top of my lungs. Pictures like this make us wonder what goes on behind the scenes. Thanks Jeanette, you've shared a powerful picture & a message that is profound. An exceptional article that the world needs to read.
Wow this hit like a bag of boulders if that was such. Sent chills through me, I know the images are unforgettable. Wish the photographer had not committed suicide perhaps he was giving his life up in some type of manner within his mind's confines to save the little boys life.
Scenes such as this one have gone on for such a long time. It is almost unimaginable what we humans do to our fellow human beings. Personally, if that were me I would have carried that child to safety and seen that he or she was well taken care of. Point well taken...

Sounds fishy to me . . . Why in the hell didn't the potographer do something to help this boy? Why didn't anyone in the company of the photgrapher reach out and help the boy? . . . I fear it is just another "fake" photograph . . . Yes, I am cynical . . . After I have seen what the news media can and will do to promote their agenda I sure am cynical . . . If this was truly a small boy crawling to the UN Camp as the vulture stood by waiting its dinner and no one did anything to help him, they should one and all be lined up against the wall and shot . . .
This picture and this knowledge is very disturbing!
WE must appreciate what we have, if not it can be GONE!

Shattering - God help us all, that we've become so inured, so apathetic, that a picture is needed as a shake up - will will become distant to this, too? I pray not -
I remember that striking picture; it is heartbreaking; yet it also makes me think about how blessed I am to have been born in this country. I may not be rich, but I do have a roof over my head, food in my belly, a nice soft bed to sleep in, and people who love me, as well as a Relationship with God, the Father. What more could I possibly need?? So many people don't have it nearly as good as I do; I am most fortunate!

Yes I recall seeing this picture some years back and it does give one pause to reflect on the bounty we have and others don't and how we take it for granted.
I first saw that picture several years ago, and it's truly heartbreaking; yet it's a picture that we should all force ourselves to look at to remind ourselves that so many of our fellow human beings are in dire trouble today. And we should all do whatever we can to help anyone in need.
The fortunate inherit riches, prestige, positive notoriety. Those not so lucky bear legacies filled with poverty, infamy or, worse yet, the unhinged insanity and murderous urges of their ancestors.
