Starboard Tack

My soul sails easily when seas are calm.
The horizon's clouds, distant and lovely
as I feel the tiller against my palm.
Breeze builds, fills the waiting sails above me,
pulling me farther, farther out to sea.
Darkening sky, ominous sky above
warnings of the danger which is to be.
Life flashing like lightning threatening love.
Angry seas rise then the angry seas fall.
The salty spray splashes against my face.
Briefly fear floods me. I hear Neptune's call.
Surviving the danger makes my heart race.
Starboard tack risky. Again starboard tack.
The sea always beckons, calling me back.
